29th June 2002 - BLACKBIRD LEYS PRESIDENTS DAY

Tommy Little's Presidents day match was an enjoyable day, and a great success (especially for the bar takings). Tommy's six invited rinks were from 'The Bus Company', East Oxford (previous members of), Headington, West Oxford, West Witney & Cotswold bowls clubs.
The Presidents team won convincingly by 148 shots to 80 - winning on five out of the six rinks. In fact the only rink to lose was the one the president himself played in - and even then it was by one shot only.

 

9th June 2002 - BLACKBIRD LEYS PAIRS CLASSIC DRAW COMPLETED

A grand total of 40 entries were received for this years Pairs Classic sponsored by LGS Drinks Ltd. As 24 pairs are required for the finals day, there will be 16 prelim games to be played by the 28th July, but 8 lucky pairs received bye's into the finals day on 4th August.

4th June 2002 - NEWS ARTICLE & 1st FIXTURE CARD FROM 1966

A copy of the first Blackbird Leys Bowls Club fixture card from 1966 was found recently by one of the Club's founding Members - Ken Painter. Fixtures included: Pressed Steel, Watlington & Shipton Under Wychwood. Ken also found a News paper article from the Oxford Mail from 4th June 1966, explaining that a 'young' Oxford bowls club were enjoying their first season - despite losing every game at the point.
