Before the Oxford Ladies League existed, the Maidens Cup was the only
competitive ladies club games played by Blackbird Leys. Unfortunately though,
Osberton have withdrawn from the Maidens Cup in 2003, leaving the competition
unable to continue. Blackbird Leys, having won the competition in 2002, will
retain the title until such a time it is restarted.
SOME MAIDENS CUP HISTORY
The Maidens Cup had been
contested by three local clubs for over a decade. The three original clubs
were: Blackbird Leys, Osberton & Florence Park, however in the early
nineties Florence park withdrew from the competition - and Morris Motors Bowls
Club took their place.
The games were played once at
each of the three clubs greens, with each side fielding two rinks. The points
are scored as such: 2 points per winning rink & 1 point for the draw.
