SUNDAY LEAGUE |
BACKGROUND
Every Sunday night from October
till late March, an internal shortmat league takes part at the Club. The 'Sunday
League' started Shortmat at Blackbird Leys Bowls Club back in the late Eighties.
Originally a small forty-foot mat was purchased with a set of eight small brown
bowls and eight small black bowls. These bowls were approx. half the size of
normal bowls, which are now used outdoor, indoor and in the current shortmat
games. In the early nineties a new 'regulation' shortmat was purchased, and with
it came the use of players own bowls.
SUNDAY NIGHT FUN
The Sunday night league has always, and will always be a fun night for all
members of the Club. There is no dress code (as long as your wearing
something!), and almost no game rules, but there is always laughter and joking.
The best thing about the Sunday league is that it is a good starting point for
anyone who is interested in Bowls, but at the same time it is open to non
bowlers (i.e. social members).
